Black walnut (Juglans nigra) is a large, highly prized, fruit-bearing tree, well known for its heavy, dark, purplish-brown wood. It’s native to North America and grows throughout eastern U.S. and Canada. Black walnut trees produce small, flavorful nuts encased in thick, hard, green hulls which are notoriously difficult to break open.
